A better product, a better environment
Introduction
Introduction: L-44 “SSC Soogee” is a new and recently added product to our growing line chemical cleaners specifically designed for Marine and River Operations. We are very pleased to announce its “arrival” and addition to the “L-44 Family”. As with all products that bear the L-44 trademark logo, SSC Soogee has been reviewed and certified by the U.S. EPA under the Standards and Criteria for the “Design for the Environment (DfE)” Program. This achieved recognition allows our product label the right for use of the U.S. EPA/DfE Logo and tagline “Recognized for Safer Chemistry” We are pleased with this accomplishment and proud to be designated as a “Recognized Partner” of this “focused” EPA program for environmental and safety concerns.
EPA/DfE Recognition
While L-44 SSC has undergone the same scrutiny by the EPA as have all other products in our trademarked line, it is a bit different from the others with respect to its certification for “Direct Release” to the environment. The requirements for this recognition are a more detailed and intense examination of its chemical profile. The toxicology studies completed on L-44 SSC confirm that no lasing harm results if it is discharged to land or waterways. In some cleaning applications, chemistry may be unintentionally or unavoidably spilled to the environment. While we would never suggest any chemical cleaner to be intentionally poured in the waterways, L-44 SSC has been EPA approved for applications where such spillage may result.
Formulation Development:
The development and formulation for L-44 SSC began with a request from a river operations company particularly known and respected for their corporate focus on all issues of environmental concern. From this initial request, research with leading outside chemical expertise, inside formulation evaluations, and multiple communications with our membership agencies specifically dedicated to research for chemical alternatives determined for environmental safety. These agencies included the “EPA”, “CleanGredients”, “GreenBlue”, “NSF International”, and ultimately “The DfE Team” for final recognition and approval of our new product.

We are exceptionally privileged to have had been presented this opportunity from an honored member in the river operations industry. We feel the interchanges of all involved represents a “Perfect Example” of how industry, manufacturing, and regulatory agencies can and have worked together to achieve a common goal resulting in a safer approach for chemistry. This is not just a nice feature of our product. It exemplifies “the value of the process”; a cooperative effort of many that results in a better product, a better environment, and combined, dramatically supports a real and greater value; a better planet for us all.
Application
L-44 “SSC Soogee” was specifically designed for use in cleaning the outside surfaces and super structures of all marine vessels. “Soogee” is an old nautical terminology that refers to cleaning outside tugboat surfaces. It came into use back when all river vessels were made of wood and required frequent cleaning to order keep their appearance and image looking good. L-44 SSC is an efficient and easy answer for this continued “Look Good” industry image, without any negative consequence for our waterways.
